Shenzhen Metro of China Deploys Datastream 7i to Track and Manage Assets

GREENVILLE, S.C., Oct. 17, 2005—Datastream Systems, Inc. announced today that Shenzhen Metro of China has deployed the Datastream 7i™ Asset Performance Management solution to optimize the performance of its assets at its new railway system in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China.

Datastream 7i enables Shenzhen Metro to manage all of the components involved with its rail system, including over 21 kilometers (13 miles) of underground rail lines, with the same ease as its discrete assets such as rail stations and equipment. Historically, transportation assets have been particularly difficult to manage due to the challenges involved with locating and managing specific asset components and segments across large geographic areas. With Datastream 7i, Shenzhen Metro can easily track costs, conduct maintenance, and analyze data on more than 250,000 assets distributed across the railway – including telecommunication and signal equipment, power transmissions, water drains, fire control equipment, railway doors, equipment monitors, ticket machines, elevators and escalator systems.

Datastream 7i also has enabled Shenzhen Metro to gain control over its inventory-management operations. As a result, Shenzhen Metro has reduced the time required to calculate proper inventory levels from up to four days to just three hours each month.

“Datastream 7i gives us new visibility into our operations by tracking the asset hierarchy and movement of these assets, as well as giving us the ability to view every purchase and transfer,” said Sufu Wang, vice general manager of maintenance for Shenzhen Metro. “This capability has enabled us to improve maintenance operations and reduce costs. Also, Datastream 7i is easy to use, reduces paperwork, and provides a wide variety of powerful reporting tools for analysis of operational data to meet our stringent management requirements.”

“Shenzhen Metro is an excellent example of how transportation agencies can use Datastream 7i to drive operational performance,” said Datastream CEO Larry Blackwell. “Shenzhen Metro needed an Asset Performance Management solution to help manage their fleet and track asset lifecycles. They selected Datastream 7i for its comprehensive asset functionality, asset hierarchy flexibility and robust reporting capabilities.”
