Premier Manufacturing Support Services Chooses Datastream 7i to Drive Global Asset Performance Management Initiative

Greenville, S.C. – August 4, 2003 – Datastream Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: DSTM) today announced that Premier Manufacturing Support Services, a subsidiary of the Dürr Group, is deploying the Datastream 7iTM asset performance management solution across 42 automobile manufacturing sites in the United States and Mexico.

Premier develops long-term global partnerships with automotive manufacturers and their suppliers by delivering paint process and other key manufacturing support services that improve customer quality, production and cost. The company is using Datastream 7i to improve equipment uptime, reduce maintenance costs and standardize work processes.

Using Datastream 7i, one plant eliminated the need for more than 60 trucks in eight months without affecting productivity, thereby reducing its equipment inventory by one-third and saving $500,000.  This represents a significant reduction considering equipment rates were the second largest expense for the plant next to personnel costs.

“Datastream 7i provides our workforce with on-demand information about equipment lists, labor costs and production hours,” said Eric Faith, manager of maintenance systems technology at Premier.  “Implementing Datastream 7i was straightforward, fast and easy, and because the set-up is only entered once into the system, we were able to benefit from the deployment immediately. For the first time, individual plants have access to common information and we can make decisions in real time.”

Premier’s service efficiency is determined largely by the performance of many pieces of machinery. To optimize the performance of these assets, Premier required a Web-architected solution that could be implemented through a single deployment and encompass multi-site operations.  With Datastream 7i, all of the plants are now using a common Web-architected asset management solution. This enables Premier to consolidate all asset data so it can compare performance across plants, identify key benefits, and transfer knowledge for best practices worldwide.

“With Datastream 7i, Premier can put processes in place for optimized asset performance and better delivery of services,” said Larry Blackwell, president and CEO of Datastream. “This not only helps Premier increase its service margins, it also enables Premier’s customers to manufacture automobiles more efficiently.”
