Fresh Advantage Deploys Datastream 7iTM Across Eight U.S. Facilities

Fresh-Cut Produce Leader Chooses Hosted Enterprise Asset Management Solution To Reduce Equipment Inventory Costs and Improve Productivity
GREENVILLE, S.C. - October 29, 2002 — Datastream Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: DSTM), today announced that Fresh Advantage, a division of Performance Food Group (NASDAQ: PFGC), is deploying the Datastream 7i hosted enterprise asset management (EAM) solution across eight U.S. facilities. Fresh Advantage is one of the world's largest producers and distributors of fresh-cut produce and markets its products to both the retail and foodservice distribution channels under its Fresh Express and Redi-Cut Foods brands.

Fresh Advantage relies on thousands of pieces of capital equipment in its plants, including slicers, driers, conveying equipment, baggers, packaging equipment and refrigeration systems. With Datastream 7i, Fresh Advantage can automate the process of tracking, managing and maintaining these assets, which allows the company to maximize equipment uptime, optimize replacement parts inventory and reduce the cost of operations. Also, Datastream 7i has the ability to attach safety and quality instructions to its work orders will help the company improve plant safety and product quality.

Historically, each Fresh Advantage plant has operated as a separate entity responsible for maintaining its own equipment and implementing its own equipment management procedures. With the Datastream 7i Web architecture, the company can now encompass all eight plants as a single "virtual enterprise," enabling Fresh Advantage to standardize asset performance benchmarks across all of its plants.

"We selected Datastream 7i over other EAM solutions because its Web architecture lets us deploy a single application across all of our locations, while still providing the flexibility to be easily configured to fit the needs of our operations," said Ross Smith, director of national maintenance of Fresh Advantage. "Datastream also has a proven track record of success with Datastream 7i deployments, and it really made the difference to hear from these customers who could talk to us about the enormous benefits they've realized with this specific product."

"Establishing consistent asset-management procedures, measured by meaningful enterprise-wide benchmarks, is a challenging endeavor for a multi-plant manufacturing operation like Fresh Advantage," said Larry Blackwell, chief executive officer of Datastream Systems. "Datastream 7i is an excellent solution for managing multiple sites under a single application, eliminating the barriers to cross-enterprise standardization that are inherent in plant-by-plant EAM deployments."
