Petroleum refiner selects Datastream to manage assets, including 1,400 miles of pipeline And 67,000 barrels of fuel per day

Greenville, S.C. - Jan. 9, 2002 — Datastream Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: DSTM), today announced that Holly Corporation has selected the Datastream 7i asset lifecycle management solution and its integrated procurement network, iProcure, to help manage and maintain critical assets in both refinery and pipeline operations. Holly Corporation's Navajo and Montana Refining operations have a combined production capacity of 67,000 barrels per day of crude petroleum and operate approximately 1,400 miles of pipeline.

"We selected Datastream's solution because we believe they are best suited to meet our requirements for managing complex assets across multiple locations," said Matt Clifton, President of Holly Corporation. "Assets are central to our business and we trust that Datastream 7i will enable us to better manage them in a way that enhances shareholder value. This project is part of the corporate cost reduction and production efficiency program we announced in May 2000 and will allow us to automate our maintenance management processes. In addition to achieving cost savings through better management of our assets, we also plan to utilize Datastream 7i as a management tool for employee safety and environmental control."

Holly Corporation selected Datastream 7i and iProcure after a rigorous evaluation of several other asset management systems. Holly selected the Datastream solution based on the product's proven Web architecture and depth of petroleum-specific functionality. "Datastream's Web architecture provides us with the capability to better manage and deploy an enterprise solution across multiple locations, companies and business units," said Tommy Guercio, Vice President, Information Technology of Holly Corporation. "Our workforce needs to access asset history and scheduling information from remote locations and we concluded that Datastream's products will meet these needs in an intuitive way utilizing a Web browser. Datastream's experience with other oil and gas companies in these areas will prove valuable to us."

"A Web-architected solution like Datastream 7i is ideal for large enterprises like Holly Corporation, because it is easy to deploy and integrate, and has a far lower total cost of ownership than applications with other architectures," said Larry Blackwell, Chief Executive Officer of Datastream Systems, Inc. "Datastream 7i provides all of the functionality required to manage assets with maximum efficiency, enabling companies to improve productivity, lower operating costs, and therefore positively impact the bottom line."
