Saint-Gobain Containers to Deploy Datastream 7iTM
Hosted Enterprise Asset Management Solution Across 18 Facilities

Hosted version of Datastream 7i drastically reduces deployment costs While significantly improving operational visibility and return on assets

GREENVILLE, S.C. - May 28, 2002 — Datastream Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: DSTM), today announced that Saint-Gobain Containers, a producer of more than 10 billion containers per year, has selected the hosted offering of the Datastream 7i enterprise asset management (EAM) solution. Saint-Gobain Containers, which manufactures bottles and jars for the food and beverage industries, has $1.35 billion in annual sales and 18 U.S. plants. The company is rolling out Datastream 7i at nine plants in 2002 and the nine remaining plants in 2003.

Datastream Systems will maintain Saint-Gobain's EAM solution at Datastream's hosting facilities. As a result, Saint-Gobain employees can access the EAM application over the Internet from any facility in the U.S., enabling Saint-Gobain to consolidate the management of its manufacturing equipment, tools and products in a single deployment. Deploying Datastream 7i as a hosted solution eliminates the hardware and software costs associated with maintaining servers in house, while also reducing significantly the personnel costs associated with installing, administering and maintaining the application, thus reducing the total cost of ownership for enterprise-wide asset management.

Saint-Gobain will use Datastream 7i to track and manage the maintenance cycle of its glass-forming machines and inspection equipment in its 18 manufacturing plants. Datastream 7i will enable Saint-Gobain to completely automate the asset-management processes required to keep each plant working at peak efficiency, including work orders, preventive maintenance, warranties, etc.

"We selected Datastream 7i over competitive offerings based on its ease-of-use and greater functionality," said Jeff Long, manager of facilities maintenance for Saint-Gobain Containers. "As a hosted offering, we can roll out Datastream 7i across all of our facilities quickly and cost-effectively. Additionally, due to its Web architecture, our manufacturing personnel can access Datastream 7i over the Web in a commonly understood format. As a result, Datastream 7i reduces training requirements, allowing a much faster ramp-up time so we can start reaping benefits immediately."

Saint-Gobain Containers is the latest in a long line of marquee enterprise customers that have chosen to deploy the Datastream 7i solution since its introduction last October. As the only completely Web-architected EAM solution with a proven track record of deployments in the field, Datastream 7i continues to gain momentum as the preferred EAM solution for companies seeking to maximize their return on assets across multiple locations.

"For large multi-location manufacturing enterprises like Saint-Gobain Containers, Datastream 7i is a very effective solution for managing, maintaining and coordinating the millions of dollars of equipment located at each facility," said Larry Blackwell, chief executive officer of Datastream Systems, Inc. "The combination of robust functionality, deployment flexibility and low total cost of ownership of Datastream 7i continues to drive the product's broad acceptance in the marketplace."
