Singapore Power-Generation Leader Selects Datastream 7iTM
to Achieve Maximum Efficiency and Reliability

PowerSeraya of Singapore becomes the latest Asia-Pacific utility to select Datastream 7i enterprise asset management solution for its Web architecture, broad functionality and ease of integration

GREENVILLE, S.C. - June 4, 2002 — Datastream Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: DSTM), today announced that PowerSeraya of Singapore has selected the Datastream 7i enterprise asset management (EAM) solution as part of a company-wide effort to become the country's most reliable, efficient and ecologically friendly power-generation company. PowerSeraya will use Datastream 7i to track, manage and maintain the utility's electrical generation and transmission equipment, which provides 3,100 megawatts of electricity for Singapore.

PowerSeraya is one of several utilities in the Asia Pacific region that have adopted Datastream's products in recent months. Beijing Datang Power Generation Co., Ltd., one of the largest independent power producers in China, recently selected Datastream as its long-term EAM provider. Also, Northern Utility Resources in Malaysia has deployed Datastream's products to track, manage and maintain more than 15,000 assets and 25,000 spare parts in its Kulim Hi Tech Park power plant, which has a combined cycle power plant and seven distribution substations.

"Our mission is to be the leading company in electricity generation and related business in Singapore, to be an operationally excellent company and to continuously increase the value of our services to our customers," said Tan Kok Poh, senior manager for PowerSeraya. "Datastream 7i will play a critical role as we achieve this mission, by enabling us to manage all of our infrastructure assets with maximum efficiency. This will allow us to deliver the most reliable and cost-effective services of any power-generation company in Singapore."

Tan said that the Datastream 7i Web architecture is one of the main reasons PowerSeraya selected the product over other EAM solutions. Datastream 7i also integrates easily with other enterprise applications through Datastream's dataBridge, which uses XML and other technologies to link to external applications. "This was another key criterion for us," Tan said. "We will integrate Datastream 7i with our SAP and Lotus Notes systems, creating a single, seamless enterprise infrastructure to support our aggressive business goals."

As the industry's most widely deployed Web-architected EAM solution, Datastream 7i greatly simplifies deployment because only one instance of the server is required, and there's no need to install special application software on client desktops. End-users need only a Web browser and a network connection to use the application. Datastream 7i is also available as a hosted application from Datastream.

"The Datastream 7i Web architecture is ideal for power companies operating multiple plants, because it eliminates much of the complexity, cost and functional limitations of plant-by-plant point solutions," said Allen Gantt, managing director, Asia Pacific, for Datastream Systems, Inc. "Datastream 7i provides consolidated management of all corporate assets, no matter where they are located: in power plants, in the field or mobile. This is why Datastream 7i gives our company a significant competitive advantage in the Asia Pacific market."
