Nucor Steel Deploys Datastream 7i to Optimize Asset Performance Across Multiple Locations
Largest U.S. Steel Producer Selects Datastream 7i
To Maximize Equipment Uptime And Meet Aggressive Production Goals
Greenville, S.C. July 21, 2003 Datastream Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: DSTM) today announced that Nucor Steel, a division of Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE), is deploying the Datastream 7i asset performance management solution across multiple locations in the United States.
Nucor Steel relies on thousands of pieces of capital equipment, including furnaces, mill stands and overhead cranes, across its operating facilities in nine states. The company is using Datastream 7i to reduce operating costs and improve efficiency by automating the management and maintenance of assets. Nucor Steel is using product modules such as work order management, inventory management, purchase management and project management to keep equipment running at peak efficiency with minimum downtime, enabling Nucor Steel to meet its aggressive production goals while also maintaining a high degree of safety for workers.
Nucor Steel has already deployed Datastream 7i across two divisions and is currently deploying across three additional divisions. The company will continue to promote synergies from these implementations to provide advantages for future installations. Because Datastream 7i is Web-architected, Nucor Steel can deploy the application across facilities from a single server, drastically reducing total cost of ownership relative to other methods of deployment. Some of the Nucor Steel sites will benefit from further savings by using the hosted deployment model, thus eliminating the costs and manpower associated with maintaining an enterprise application in-house.
Furthermore, with Datastream 7i, Nucor Steel can consolidate its enterprise-wide asset management operations under one application. This provides a powerful opportunity for the company to implement a strategy in which it optimizes organizational performance by sharing data and best practices across locations.
Nucor Steel has worked with Datastream to develop a range of key performance indicators (KPIs) to help executives make fast, effective business decisions. Datastream 7i will provide executives with at a glance views of these KPIs so they can have on-demand information on the state of their operations. Nucor Steel is also integrating Datastream 7i with its finance, office automation and inventory-management systems to create a seamless infrastructure for fully utilizing asset data.
Nucor Steel is also using the Datastream 7i Buy automated procurement module in six of its divisions for the purchase of parts and supplies. Those six divisions are now working with other divisions of the company to increase adoption of Datastream 7i Buy.
Datastream 7i is an excellent solution for multi-location manufacturing operations like Nucor Steel. The company can maintain control of thousands of assets spread across many plants, as well as the processes and inventory required to support those assets, said Larry Blackwell, president and CEO of Datastream Systems, Inc. We look forward to building on this success story with the multi-location rollout of Datastream 7i.
