Paris Metro Chooses Datastream for Total Asset Control

Quick Facts
  • 15 rail lines across 124 miles of track
  • 100 maintenance employees
  • Oracle Financials Interface
The Paris Metro System (RATP) is one of the largest transit systems in Europe. The system operates 15 rail lines across 124 miles (201.5 km) of track. RATP's ESE/AE division maintains the energy distribution network for RATP.

Out of 400 employees at RATP, over 100 employees are dedicated to maintenance and asset management. RATP's maintenance staff works on a number of different areas, including preventive and corrective maintenance, spare parts purchasing, inventory control, and maintenance engineering.

The Challenge
RATP needed an asset management solution to maintain the 26,000 assets in service. The organization required a robust, scaleable application that met certain functional requirements. In particular, the ESE/AE division needed a asset management system with a fast, simple implementation, and the RATP required that software provide an interface to Oracle Financials so that maintenance costs would appear on the General Ledger (GL).

The Solution
RATP chose Datastream for asset and cost tracking for the ESE/AE division, and shortly after the first implementation, the interface to Oracle Financials was completed. "Datastream's asset management software allows us to integrate our information system in one package," says Jean Claude Riebier, head of the maintenance software project at RATP. "Also, the software simplified our management processes by centralizing accounting at various cost centers."

The Results
RATP soon found that Datastream was an adaptable solution for their business processes. The software helped maintain the day-to-day operations while providing a high-level overview of the assets through various reports."Datastream provides a modular solution which carries out the traditional functions of controlling maintenance tasks and spare parts inventory," Riebier says. "Datastream software can also be configured to accept current and future process requirements in order to obtain the best results possible."
