> Datastream Partners with Cognos to Deliver Datastream 7i Advanced Reporting
Datastream has established an OEM partnership with Cognos, the world leader in business intelligence and Corporate Performance Management (CPM). This alliance provides Datastream customers with unprecedented capabilities for analyzing and reporting cross-enterprise asset performance data, complementing the Datastream 7i Analytics advanced module which provides sophisticated modeling and forecasting capabilities to Datastream 7i users.

“The new Datastream 7i Advanced Reporting module enables us to generate highly detailed and granular reports on our critical asset management processes.”

Jim Wiegand
Premier Manufacturing Support Services

The partnership enables Datastream to integrate Cognos’ market-leading Cognos ReportNet™ solution into the new Datastream 7i Advanced Reporting module. This Web-based solution now gives Datastream 7i users even greater flexibility to create complex reports with drag-and-drop simplicity.

Using Datastream 7i Advanced Reporting, users can produce invoices, statements and advanced graphical reports—as well as a broad range of business reports—all through a single Web-based reporting solution. This enables customers to analyze their asset data in new ways so they can gain much greater visibility into the costs of operations and the performance of individual assets.

The Datastream 7i Advanced Reporting module, powered by Cognos ReportNet, enables customers to configure reports specifically for their specific environment. For example, reports can be configured to provide in-depth information on equipment failure according to equipment type, or failure analysis by failure code. Reports can be layered so users can drill down to get increasingly specific information simply by clicking on embedded hyperlinks in each report.

> ARC: Improving Business Performance by Unifying Operations
Tom Fiske and Dave Woll of ARC Advisory Group discuss the growing trend in manufacturing toward reducing opportunity costs by correlating operations data to strategic corporate objectives. Below is an excerpt from the article on ARCweb.

Download the Datastream white paper Asset Performance Management: The Secret to Uncovering Hidden Profits and Ending Operating Surprises.

"Leading manufacturers are shifting focus from production-driven manufacturing and moving towards a demand-driven or business-centric approach that optimizes operations and profits. Unified operations management environments facilitate Operational Excellence (OpX) by providing a unified production perspective that ties together contextual information, work processes, integrates disparate systems, provides performance analysis and intelligence, and delivers real-time role-based visibility to everyone in the organization."

> Tech Tip: Datastream 7i

Forcing an "end task" (ctrl+alt+del) may tie up a client license even though Datastream 7i is closed locally.

Sessions may remain active until the server or database clears the dormant session—which can take over an hour. This may adversely affect your client license count.

Web applications, like Datastream 7i, open connections to a server. To end the server connection, the application must send a signal to the server which is accomplished by exiting (clicking the X in the top corner of the window) or logging out of Datastream 7i. Ending sessions using Windows Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del) does not guarantee to send the signal and the session will remain active even though it is closed on the desktop.

Some processes take longer than others to complete, such as intensive reports and large work order or purchase order generations. It is recommended to let the process continue thorough to successful completion. If the process seems to take much longer than normal to complete, or results in an error, please contact Datastream Technical Support.
